Be a part of the fight against breast cancer while enjoying a feast for the senses. Join Krewe de Pink for their fifth annual Death by Chocolate…NOT Breast Cancer fundraiser to honor this year’s Sweet Survivors: Debra Banquer, Rebecca Brignac, Linda Dill, Carolyn Przybylski, Genelle Perez-Sandi, Peggy Spear. This year’s event is also In Memory of one of our 2021 Sweet Survivors, Jean Vappie.

Krewe de Pink has created a chocolate tasting with champagne event like no other. Tasty chocolate bites —both sweet and savory— will be crafted with chocolate donated by Callebaut Chocolate, home of the finest Belgian chocolate.

At this 21 and older event, guests will enjoy the scrumptious chocolate creations* with bubbly* which has been graciously provided by Josh Wine Cellars. Live music will be performed by a local Jazz Combo. There will be raffles to include a stunning diamond jewelry donated by Diamonds Direct, staycation from Hyatt Centric, a Champagne Basket as well as a case of champagne. A fabulous photo station will be available for guests to capture the moment.

The event is a live competition. Each dish will be judged by guests and our judges on their chocolate-inspired dishes with 1st and 2nd Place in both the People’s Choice and Judges Choice Awards for both categories.

VIP ticket holders will enjoy exclusive access to the event with a 5:30 pm entry time to mingle with the local chefs and 2024 Sweet Survivors and receive special takeaways. The general admission entry time is at 6:30 pm. Tickets are limited. (Cannot make the event but want to support breast cancer research? Consider a donation in honor of a loved one.)

The event will be held at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home. The exquisite features of this New Orleans landmark including the unique architecture, fine furnishings, spectacular chandeliers & fireplace mantels, and beautiful gardens provide an elegant setting for this fun, exciting and decadent event.

Those who attend are in for a unique and memorable experience full of wonderful sights, scents, sounds and tastes all while supporting breast cancer research at the Tulane Cancer Center.

* For those with food allergies, each dish is designated with common allergens. A list of ingredients is available upon request.

** Non-alcoholic beverages (sparkling & still water and coffee) are available.

What Does Being a Sweet Survivor Mean?

Caitrin Gladow SS2022

"To be honored as a Sweet Survivor is such a lovely acknowledgement that despite being inducted into the worst sorority - that of breast cancer, with its battles, triumphs and crushing blows - we're also forever linked through Krewe de Pink's passion. I'm beyond grateful for that shared experience with my fellow sweet survivors." -

Lisa Picone Love SS2021

"Being selected as one of the Sweet Survivors for the first ever Death by Chocolate event was a tremendous honor, especially among some of the most influential women in the city.  Indulge in a luxurious evening of champagne, chocolate, and celebration with friends in support of breast cancer research. Raise a glass and make a difference with a night filled with laughter, love, and giving back."

Christopher Nobles

Christopher Nobles is a New Orleans native and artist who is a food product himself, having been distilled from at least 5 generations’ worth of local food businesses. Starting with his Sicilian great-great-grandfather, who turned a bulb of garlic into a corner grocery, and culminating in his grandfather’s gifts of childhood chocolates from his lil’ Pidgin Town grocery, with careers in pastry throughout the family line, one might say he was destined to adopt the medium of chocolate in parallel to his love for- and careers in other artistic sciences like music and psychology.

Chef Dee Lavigne

She attended the Culinary Institute of America and in 2016 started her first business, Deelightful Cupcakes. She worked as the Assistant Production Producer on the WWL Saturday Morning News Food Segment and in 2020 became the Director of Culinary Programming at the Southern Food and Beverage Museum. She is also the owner of Deelightful Roux School of Cooking.

Erin Seidemann

Erin Seidemann is a New Orleans native (Lakeview, represent!), graduate of the Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts in Professional Pastry Arts, certified chocolate taster, and judge for the International Chocolate Awards. She works in finance to pay the bills but spends her free time baking, making chocolates, running on the levee, and flying her plane from Lakefront Airport.
