Our Mission
To raise awareness for breast cancer research and fund innovative research on breast cancer therapies at Tulane Cancer Center.
About Us
We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit made up of a team of passionate volunteers that produce events with a New Orleans flair, Pink Bra Run/Walk/Ride, Death by Chocolate…NOT Breast Cancer, and Krewe de Pink Prom, to raise awareness and funds for innovative research on Breast Cancer at Tulane Cancer Center.
Our History
Impacted by the effects of breast cancer and inspired by breast cancer survivors, in 2011 this group of people was moved to come together and raise money for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Led by its founder, Gregory Cantrell, these passionate individuals created the unincorporated nonprofit association called the New Orleans Friends of the BCRF and produced the first fundraising event held on the West Bank of New Orleans at Bed and Breakfast on the Point.
The popularity of the event led the group to partner with Hard Rock Café New Orleans where they produced "BreastFest", an event that evolved into three parties in one night. Starting with a VIP party at venues such as the ACME Oyster House or Richard Fisk’s Martini bar, then into a second line taking to the streets of the French Quarter led by one of New Orleans’ top brass bands. And lastly, continuing at Hard Rock where patrons enjoyed live music, a silent auction, and complimentary food and beverages. It was truly a great time!
During our first five years as an unincorporated nonprofit association, the group raised over $45,000 for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and hosted two benefit dinners raising over $10,000 for local warriors fighting breast cancer.
Toward the goal of growing and making an even larger impact, the group formed a Louisiana nonprofit corporation, Krewe de Pink in 2015 and officially became a tax exempt nonprofit charity organization. We now raise funds supporting innovative research at Tulane Cancer Center in their efforts to find a cure for breast cancer. Since our 501(c)(3) designation we have donated over $210,000 to the Tulane Breast Cancer Research Center.
In a city known for festivals and celebrations, New Orleans is the perfect place to conduct a Krewe de Pink event. So join us for one of our events – Pink Bra Run, Death By Chocolate…Not Breast Cancer, and the Krewe de Pink Prom – we have something for everyone!
